The Entertainers: Loire classics

Bourgueil 2007 - Les Galichets : 10.00 €

The wine-grower, M. Pierre Breton, produces a rich, ripe red wine at the western end of the Touraine region of Loire valley. The vines are over 50 years old, and are entirely of the Cabernet franc grape variety. The resultant wine has an intensely fruity bouquet and flavour which is not only suitable for drinking now, but will develop further over the next three years if stored correctly.

The old alluvial terrace is a kind of raised plateau, fifteen or so metres above the level of the Loire (48 to 55 m) and 5 to 6 km wide. It is on this terrace, between the slopes and the plains, that we find the most renowned Cabernet vineyard of all.

It extends twenty or so kilometres in length and covers an old alluvial platform consisting of sand and coarse gravel infill, which grows increasingly pebbly as it nears the valley. Source: INRA annal no.6.
These vines produce the mellowest wines, which acquire maximum flavour in a shorter space of time.
